The Fourth of July and Updates

I hope everyone was able to refresh this Independence Day with a great beer!

While my Fourth of July celebration was spent working I was able to review a beer that epitomizes the spirit of the American Craft Beer industry. Check out my review of Flying Dog’s Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale.

And yes…it is named Doggie Style.

Doggie Style was recently ranked by the New York Times as the number 1 pale ale from an American microbrewery. I certainly agree with their assessment, as Doggie Style may be the beer for everyone. It has a comfortable yet distinct hop taste that compliments well with a slight hint of sweetness from the crystal malt. Meant for hopheads and malt lovers alike, Doggie Style has a strong flavor that is surprisingly balanced.

Speaking of dogs, my friend Rainer sent me a pretty cool picture the other day. If you remember, Rainer wrote a blog post titled “Bowser Beer: It’s Beer For Your Dog”. Well apparently Rainer stumbled upon a stand that was selling and promoting Bowser’s Beer for dogs. So of course Rainer had to document it.

Now me and Rainer both want dogs.

So enjoy the review and Rainer’s blog post. Do not forget to comment either. That is always appreciated.

I will probably release #6 on the Best Beers of College list tomorrow or Wednesday. I doubt anyone will guess what it is.

How about a hint? It is has the same name as a video game.

If you get it right I will buy you a six-pack of a beer of your choice.

Good luck.

Beer For Your Dog??? And Updates

Here are a few updates from your favorite amateur beer entusiast!

Here I am drinking a Raspberry Ale from Thristy Dog. Trust me. This is work.

Earlier my friend Rainer Fehrenbacher posted an article on his blog about a beer in Scottsdale, AZ that you can buy for your dog.

Check it out. It is hysterical!

And a quick read if you are short on time.

I am going to get a designated drinking dog now. Since they can not drive I might as well share my love of beer with man’s best friend.

On a side note Best Beers of College # 10 should be up tomorrow or Thursday. You can take a look at honorable mentions and # 15-11 here. Any guesses on # 10?

I also posted a new review on my examiner page. Read the review for Flying Dog’s Gonzo Imperial Porter. It will rock your socks off.

Bad Tasting Beers- A little advice from esquire

Beer drinking is a community, right?

Well my drinking buddy Rainer Fehrenbacher (read his blog. He just gave it a new look) sent me an article from esquire.com titled “Nine of the Worst Beers on Earth”. I found this list to be pretty amusing. While all of the beers on this list are pretty abysmal, I am just thankful that none of the beers that I drank in college are on this list.

One of the beers featured was 7-eleven’s Game Day Light. Now first off, I was in awe when I read that 7-eleven makes their own beer. Really? There is no way this can end well. I am certain there are better beers you can drink if you are on a budget.

So take a quick look. At the least you will be entertained. You may be even be surprised on what beers this list says to avoid, especially if you are an avid light beer drinker.

Comments? Thoughts
